Monumental Tuareg Copper Cauldron — Applied Brass Ornamentation & Pierced Tripod Feet
• The Cauldron
This monumental copper cauldron is a powerful example of North-West African metalwork, most plausibly attributed to Tuareg artisans of the Saharan region. Hand-wrought rather than cast, the vessel features a thick hammered copper body adorned with applied brass ornamentation, each element individually soldered into place. The construction is unapologetically tactile and expressive, emphasizing weight, contrast, and presence over symmetry or refinement.
The cauldron stands on striking pierced tripod feet — a defining characteristic of Saharan ritual and domestic vessels — which elevate the form while anchoring it firmly to the ground. These sculptural legs, combined with the substantial copper swing handle, suggest a piece intended not for ordinary cooking, but for ceremonial or prestige use: the burning of incense, resins, or embers, or as a symbolic object within the household or tent. The interplay of copper and brass reflects traditional Tuareg smithing practices, where mixed metals conveyed status, protection, and cultural identity.
Likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, this cauldron carries the unmistakable authority of an object made to endure — materially, culturally, and energetically. Heavy, commanding, and deeply evocative, it reads as both a culturally grounded artifact and a potent living altar piece. Equally at home in a serious collection, a ritual setting, or as a singular, grounding presence within a curated interior.

• Patina & Care
The exterior patina has been intentionally preserved for its character, beauty, and value. Copper can be polished back to its original copper-rose tone if desired, but maintaining the patina honors the piece’s age and retains its antique integrity.
An additional antique wax finish can be applied for 5 € per cauldron, to either patina-ed or polished vessels.
• Ritual Cleansing
While the patina remains untouched, the interior has been ritually cleansed with sea salt, lemon, and focused intention. This resets the vessel’s energetic imprint, harmonizing it for immediate ritual or spiritual use.
