This monumental copper cauldron is a powerful example of North-West African metalwork, most plausibly attributed to Tuareg artisans of the Saharan region. Hand-wrought rather than cast, the vessel features a thick hammered copper body adorned with applied brass ornamentation, each element individually soldered into place. The cauldron stands on striking pierced tripod feet — a defining characteristic of Saharan ritual and domestic vessels — which elevate the form while anchoring it firmly to the ground.
