Compact Copper Hanging Cauldron with Brass Knob Lid & Black Iron Tripod — Villedieu Lineage

• The Cauldron

This modest copper cauldron is gracefully curved, designed to hang from its single bronze handle, and crowned with a fitted lid topped by a classic brass knob. Full of presence, it comes with a three-legged black iron tripod featuring a hooked wire support, giving it an epic, alchemical display. Its silhouette feels simultaneously functional and sculptural — a finely realized object shaped by centuries of French metalworking tradition. Measuring approximately 5.5 cm tall (8 cm including the knob), it’s small but commanding, a treasure of both form and story.

Stamped at the base with what appears to reference Villedieu, this cauldron evokes the historic copper-making legacy of Villedieu‑les‑Poêles, a Normandy town whose artisanal workshops have been celebrated since the Middle Ages. Known for dinanderie and poêlerie (fine copper and brass cookware), the town’s coppersmiths flourished under the influence of the Knights Hospitaller (later the Knights of Malta), who helped establish artisan metalworking there in the 12th century — which also gave the town its name (“Ville Dieu”) and long copperworking legacy.

 Even today, Villedieu‑les‑Poêles is revered for its centuries-old craftsmanship, blending medieval technique with artisanal refinement. This piece, with its warm patina, hanging form, and accompanying tripod, carries the quiet resonance of that heritage, making it a collector-worthy object that carries as much legacy as functionality.

• Patina & Care

The exterior patina has been intentionally preserved for its character, beauty, and value. Copper can be polished back to its original copper-rose tone if desired, but maintaining the patina honors the piece’s age and retains its antique integrity.

An additional antique wax finish can be applied for 5 € per cauldron, to either patina-ed or polished vessels.

• Ritual Cleansing

While the patina remains untouched, the interior has been ritually cleansed with sea salt, lemon, and focused intention. This resets the vessel’s energetic imprint, harmonizing it for immediate ritual or spiritual use.
